PTCB Exam Day: What to Expect and How to Prepare
Get ready for PTCB exam day with practical tips on what to bring, expect, and how to manage test anxiety.
Before Exam Day
Schedule your PTCB exam through Pearson VUE and confirm your testing center location and appointment time. Bring two forms of valid identification, with your primary ID being government-issued with a photo and signature. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to complete check-in procedures.
The night before, review your key study notes briefly but avoid cramming. Get adequate sleep and eat a balanced meal before your appointment. Prepare your route to the testing center and account for traffic.
During the Exam
The PTCB exam consists of 90 questions to be completed in 2 hours. Of these, 80 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest questions (you will not know which are which). Questions cover medications, federal requirements, patient safety, and order entry/processing.
Manage your time by allocating roughly 1.3 minutes per question. Flag difficult questions and return to them after completing easier ones. Eliminate obviously wrong answers to improve your odds on uncertain questions.
