Certification Versus Licensure
NREMT certification is a national credential that demonstrates entry-level competency. State licensure is the legal authorization to practice in a given state. Most states use NREMT certification as a requirement for initial licensure.
Moving to a New State
Each state has its own application, fees, background checks, and sometimes additional training or protocol exams. Maintaining current NREMT certification generally makes reciprocity easier. The Interstate Compact known as REPLICA is expanding mobility among participating states.
Staying Compliant
Track renewal dates for both national and state credentials, since they may differ. Report address changes and any legal issues as required. Practicing without a valid license can have serious consequences.
