Know Your Level
An EMT has a defined scope that includes basic airway management, oxygen administration, CPR, AED use, bleeding control, splinting, and a limited list of medications. Advanced skills such as intubation and IV medications belong to higher levels.
Typical Distractors
Questions may offer advanced interventions as answer choices. Unless the question states that ALS is on scene or that you are under specific protocols, choose the option within basic scope. Calling for ALS support is often the right move.
Protocols and Medical Direction
The exam is national, so focus on standard national guidelines rather than local variations. When a question mentions medical direction, follow the described order. Practice by sorting skills into EMT, AEMT, and paramedic levels.
