Watch for Qualifiers
Words such as first, best, most likely, initial, and except can change the meaning of a question. Many wrong answers are technically correct actions but not the first priority. Underline or mentally highlight these terms.
Identify the Question Type
Ask yourself whether the question is about assessment, treatment, or transport priority. Look for age, vital signs, and mental status details. A patient with an altered mental status and respiratory distress changes the priority.
Eliminate and Decide
Remove options that are unsafe, outside scope, or irrelevant. Choose the option that addresses the most immediate life threat. If two answers seem correct, pick the one that follows the ABC priority.
