Networking and Mentorship in Emergency Medical Services

Build relationships that support your growth, from preceptors to professional organizations.

March 22, 2025

Find Mentors

Look for experienced providers who demonstrate strong clinical skills and professionalism. Ask for feedback and guidance on career decisions. A good mentor can help you avoid mistakes and open doors.

Join Professional Groups

Organizations such as state EMS associations, the NAEMT, and specialty societies offer education and networking. Attend conferences and local meetings, and consider volunteering for committees. Online communities can supplement but not replace face-to-face connections.

Give Back

Mentor new providers, speak at training events, and support peers. Relationships work both ways, and reputation matters in a small profession. Stay curious and open to learning from everyone.
