Radio Basics

Listen before transmitting, press the button for a moment before speaking, and keep your mouth a few inches from the microphone. Speak clearly and avoid unnecessary words. Use plain language and standard terms.

The Medical Report

A good report states unit identification, patient age and sex, chief complaint, history, vital signs, treatments given, and estimated arrival time. Keep it to about a minute when possible. Avoid giving the patient's name over the air.

Medical Direction Orders

When requesting orders, state your concerns and the specific order requested. Repeat orders back to confirm accuracy. Document the order, the physician, and the time received.
