Driving With Due Regard

Emergency vehicle drivers must operate with due regard for the safety of all persons. Lights and sirens do not grant immunity from liability. Many agencies use them only when the patient's condition justifies the added risk.

Safe Practices

Wear seat belts at all times, including in the patient compartment when possible. Maintain safe following distance, slow at intersections, and never assume other drivers hear you. Avoid unnecessary speed since the time saved is often minimal.

Scene Parking

Park in a position that protects the scene, using the vehicle as a barrier on highways. Turn wheels away from traffic and keep headlights low. Use reflective vests and cones to improve visibility.
