Exam Format

The PTCE consists of 90 multiple-choice questions: 80 scored and 10 unscored pretest items (you cannot tell which are which). You have 1 hour and 50 minutes. The exam is computer-based and administered at Pearson VUE testing centers nationwide. A scaled score of 1,400 out of 1,600 is required to pass.

How to Prepare

Most successful candidates study for 4-8 weeks using a combination of flashcards for drug knowledge, timed practice exams for pacing, and pharmacy math practice. The Medications domain at 40% deserves the most study time, but Patient Safety (26.25%) is where many candidates lose points on USP and compounding questions.

PTCBprep provides 800+ flashcards, 40 timed mini exams, and 10 full-length 90-question simulations covering all four PTCE domains with the exact weighting used on the real exam.
