BCBA Exam Day: Measurement Tips

What to expect and how to approach Measurement, Data Display & Interpretation questions on exam day.

General BCBA Exam Day Reminders

Arrive Early

Arrive at the Pearson VUE testing center at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time. Bring two forms of valid ID.

Time Management

You have 4 hours for 185 questions. That is approximately 1.3 minutes per question. Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question.

Flag and Move On

If you are unsure about a question, flag it and move on. Return to flagged questions after completing the rest of the exam.

Read Every Option

Read all four answer choices before selecting one. The exam often includes plausible distractors that can trap candidates who rush.

Measurement Section Tips for Exam Day

1

Measurement makes up about 21% of the exam (approximately 39 questions). Many involve interpreting graphs or selecting measurement procedures.

2

If shown a graph, take time to identify: the design type, the phases, and changes in level, trend, and variability before answering.

3

For measurement selection questions, consider the characteristics of the behavior (discrete vs. continuous, high vs. low rate) to choose the best method.

4

IOA calculation questions require careful reading. Make sure you know which formula to apply and double-check your arithmetic.

5

When asked about experimental designs, focus on what each design can and cannot demonstrate. Reversal designs require the behavior to be reversible.
