General BCBA Exam Day Reminders

Arrive Early

Arrive at the Pearson VUE testing center at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time. Bring two forms of valid ID.

Time Management

You have 4 hours for 185 questions. That is approximately 1.3 minutes per question. Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question.

Flag and Move On

If you are unsure about a question, flag it and move on. Return to flagged questions after completing the rest of the exam.

Read Every Option

Read all four answer choices before selecting one. The exam often includes plausible distractors that can trap candidates who rush.

Applications Section Tips for Exam Day

1

Applications is the largest section at 36% of the exam (approximately 67 questions). This section will take the most time and attention.

2

For every behavior scenario, mentally identify the function before reading the answer choices. This prevents you from being drawn to plausible but incorrect interventions.

3

When asked about differential reinforcement, make sure you know which specific type (DRA, DRI, DRO, DRL) is being described. Read carefully.

4

Prompting questions often test whether you understand fading. If the answer includes prompts but no fading plan, it is likely incorrect.

5

Generalization and maintenance questions are common. Look for answers that include strategies like multiple exemplars, natural reinforcers, or intermittent schedules.
